Are you Thirsty?
If we could wave a magic rod and have whatever we desired at the beginning of this year, what would we wish for? Would we wish for financial success, a return to our first love or restored relationships that have been broken? Would we ask for loved ones long gone to be reunited with us?
Maybe we can learn from the prophet Isaiah as we consider our desires in light of the theme for the year Establishment, Growth and Fruitfulness.
1 “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. 3 Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live;
We have been lovingly and purposefully created to be thirsty people, but we often try to sate our desires on things that do not satisfy. God knows this and the prophet sounds a clarion call into a wilderness of dry and desperate people promising true satisfaction. What does this mean as we look at the year standing before us?
He alone can satisfy the deep longings of our soul. We need him more than we can imagine.
There is no magic wand for the things that we desperately need.
However, there is Someone much better. Let’s quench our deep thirst this year in the One who truly satisfies. Then let’s call others to join us at the thundering waterfall of his abundant provision.
